The Avengables is a blend of traditional rod puppetry, digital animation, special effects, and 3D. Once the script is complete, our talented voice actors bring the words to life. We then sync up their performances with storyboards to create an animatic. This previsualization tool allows us to better plan our shots and prepare the miniature sets. When shooting, the puppeteers perform to the recorded dialogue to get the timing right. Edited with Adobe Premiere, composited in After Effects, sweetened via Audition, with facial animation done in Character Animator. The mouths and eyebrows are mapped onto the puppets using mocha and 3D camera tracking. Music and Foley are added once the picture is locked. Special effects, color grading, and the credits are added before rendering the completed episode.

 

You can watch the pilot episode animatic on YouTube, but be warned - Emmalee foolishly did all the voices and sound effects herself. Learn from your errors, and move forward!
